4/2:
even more of a transition day. We left Wellington at 6:50am for an almost 12 hour ridepassing Taupo, Cambridge and reached Auckland (link) at 6pm. We decided to NZ's biggest town which is supposed to be comparable to a smaller Sydney including a "lower (budget) harbour bridge.
5/2:
After getting up early the two previous days we slept in this time followed by some sightseeing (Auckland Tower, The Domain and Albert-park on the "lover's track").
In the evening we adjusted our personal schedule and phoned almost all local car rentals to go to the very northern part of NZ up to Cape Reinga (link) on our own. Mainly because we were on a tight budget already and an additional tour package for this part would have been 142$ x 2. So we figured it'd be better (and cheaper) to just have another road trip by ourselfs.
You wouldn't believe how many rental companies only offer cars for a minimum periode of 5 or more days...but eventually we sorted out a Toyota Starlet for 39$ a day (3 days in total).
